Class Experience

Welcome to this exciting Self Paced Class! In this class, the focus is on teaching your child essential Executive Functioning Skills, which are crucial for their academic success and overall development. As an experienced teacher practitioner in this area, I've crafted a dynamic curriculum that strikes the perfect balance between learning and fun!

Throughout the course, your child will engage in a variety of activities designed to enhance their executive functioning skills. Here's a breakdown of what we'll cover each week:

⭐️ Week 1: Working memory: The capacity to hold and manipulate information in mind for short periods, which is essential for tasks like following directions or solving problems.

⭐️ Week 2: Impulse control: The ability to resist immediate urges or temptations.

⭐️ Week 3: Planning: The ability to set simple goals and use strategies to meet the goal/ task.

⭐️ Week 4: Emotional regulation: The capability to manage emotions appropriately in various situations, which is crucial for decision-making and interpersonal interactions.

⭐️ Week 5: Flexibility: Being able to adapt to change, and think creatively in different situations.

⭐️ Week 6: Organisation: The capacity to arrange and prioritise tasks.

How will the lesson be taught -

📌 Real-Life Examples: Using relatable scenarios or stories to illustrate the practical application of each skill.

📌Games: Students learn best when having fun!

📌Interactive Activities: Engaging in hands-on exercises tailored to each executive function skill. For instance, practicing emotional regulation through role-playing, art, worksheets and mindfulness exercises.

📌Peer Collaboration: Encouraging teamwork and group activities, fostering a supportive learning environment. Your child's work may also be featured in class materials with your approval.

📌Reflection and Feedback: Providing opportunities for self-assessment and feedback to track progress effectively. I'll also work closely with you to support your child's development.

📌Application Beyond the Classroom: Helping your child recognise how these skills extend beyond our lessons into their daily lives.

I encourage parents to oversee their child's engagement in the flex course because with executive functioning difficulties, your child may need extra support to stay on track.

By the end of the course, your child will have strengthened their executive functioning skills and gained confidence in applying them independently. I'm thrilled to embark on this journey with your child, and I look forward to seeing their growth and progress!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, I'm Alison, and I'm thrilled to be here to guide your child on a journey of learning important life skills. With over 16 years of experience as a School Counselor, Special Educational Needs Coach, and School Social Worker, I'm dedicated to teaching social, emotional, and well-being skills to children and young people.

During the last decade, I've worked as an international school counselor. I frequently conducted individual and group sessions covering a range of topics, including social skills, anger management, self-regulation, executive functioning, self-control, ADHD/Autism support, and understanding / responding to strong feelings.

My teaching approach involves a three-part method: engaging students' minds by presenting skills objectively, connecting with their emotions by relating skills to their own experiences, and providing hands-on activities to reinforce learning in a multisensory manner. This ensures a deeper understanding and practical application of the skills taught.

I have been teaching social, emotional, well-being and character development for most of my career. To support this work, I have been trained in and utilize various accredited social and emotional programs, including Zones of Regulation, Kelso's Choices, and Second Step. These programs have also played a key role within my lessons as they promote emotional intelligence, empathy, and problem-solving skills.

I have spent a number of years working with students with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder. The focus of my work was on developing their executive functioning, social skills, and academics.

When I'm not teaching on Outschool, I cherish spending time with my family. I have three children ranging from middle school to Grade 2, and we love going on walks together. My favorite moments include watching the sunset and exploring new food.

I'm excited to get to know my new students and embarking on this learning adventure together. Part of our success will be down to parent collaboration so I welcome your messages before, during, or after any group sessions.
