Intermediate Level
The instruction of this class focuses on developing and maintaining executive function skills. These skills promote the development of brain processes that enable learners to maximize strategies for organization and higher learning. The topics relate to organizational skills including organizing learning materials, time management, study strategies, and test preparation strategies. The topics also relate to areas of higher learning including goal setting, decision making, learning strengths, and maintaining consistency. The class structure blends direct instruction with individual practice and self-assessment. The direct instruction will focus on inquiry-based learning using a facilitator style for teaching and learning. Students will interact with the teacher through participation in learning activities, classroom discussions, and through the classroom communications system when class is not in session.
Learning Goals
1. Set up a personal organizational system and establish a practice for filing papers.
2. Evaluate and improve the use of unscheduled time.
3. Apply reading strategies, note-taking strategies, and following direction strategies.
