Assignments
2-4 hours per week. Each assignment will involve the students in applying the skills presented in each lesson topic.
Grading
The assessment will be a self-assessment survey each student will complete and submit to the teacher at the end of each session. Parents may obtain a copy upon request.

Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
Intermediate Level
The instruction of this class focuses on developing and maintaining executive function skills. These skills promote the development of brain processes that enable learners to maximize strategies for organization and higher learning. 

The topics relate to organizational skills including organizing learning materials, time management, study strategies, and test preparation strategies. The topics also relate to areas of higher learning including goal setting, decision making, learning strengths, and maintaining consistency. 

The class structure blends direct instruction with individual practice and self-assessment.   The direct instruction will focus on inquiry-based learning using a facilitator style for teaching and learning. 

Students will interact with the teacher through participation in learning activities, classroom discussions, and through the classroom communications system when class is not in session.

1. Set up a personal organizational system and establish a practice for filing papers. 
2. Evaluate and improve the use of unscheduled time.
3. Apply reading strategies, note-taking strategies, and following direction strategies.

Lesson 1:
Self-Assessment and Setting Up the Binder Organizational System Option #1
 This lesson guides students through the process of setting up the binder system.

Setting Up a color-coded Folder/Spiral Organizational System Option #2
 In this lesson, students are guided through the process of setting up an organizational system using color-coded spiral notebooks and folders.

Lesson 3:
Long-Term Storage and Materials Management Reflections.
 In this lesson, students create a long-term storage plan for organizing important papers or projects for future reference.

Self-Assessment and Planning
 This lesson is about students awareness of how they manage their time and introducing the to a system of daily recording of homework assignments.

Other Details

Supply List
The teacher will post curriculum materials before each class. The students should have the following materials available during instruction: pen/pencil, writing paper, a planner, a binder with dividers, a pocket folder for school communications and returned work, and a folder or other system for storing work from this class.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
