This course is designed to provide children with valuable social skills through personalised 1-on-1 sessions. These sessions will help to equip young learners with essential tools for understanding and navigating social interactions.

The sessions will be individualised to the students needs and interest and in consultation with parents. Some of the topic covers may include:

1. **Reading Social Cues:** Children will learn to decipher non-verbal signals and understand the unspoken aspects of communication.

2. **Utilising the Social Filter:** We'll delve into the concept of thinking before speaking, helping kids become mindful of their words and actions in social situations.

3. **Initiating and Maintaining Conversations:** Participants will gain the skills to start conversations and keep them engaging and flowing smoothly.

5. **Social Thinking:** Kids will learn the difference between socially acceptable and unacceptable conduct and behaviors that may be considered inappropriate.

6. **Making Friends:** The course will provide strategies for forging new friendships and nurturing existing ones.

My approach is highly individualised, tailored to each child's specific needs. Prior to commencing the class, I would collaborate with parents or guardians to determine the most pertinent topics and areas of focus for each student.

Each session will involve direct instruction on these critical social skills, ensuring that children receive personalised guidance and practice. My goal is to empower young learners to navigate social interactions with confidence and success, setting them on a path towards healthier and more fulfilling relationships.

It's important to emphasise that this is a one-on-one social skills class, not a therapy session.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, I'm Alison, and I'm thrilled to be here to guide your child on a journey of learning important life skills. With over 16 years of experience as a School Counselor, Special Educational Needs Coach, and School Social Worker, I'm dedicated to teaching social, emotional, and well-being skills to children and young people.

During the last decade, I've worked as an international school counselor. I frequently conducted individual and group sessions covering a range of topics, including social skills, anger management, self-regulation, executive functioning, self-control, ADHD/Autism support, and understanding / responding to strong feelings.

My teaching approach involves a three-part method: engaging students' minds by presenting skills objectively, connecting with their emotions by relating skills to their own experiences, and providing hands-on activities to reinforce learning in a multisensory manner. This ensures a deeper understanding and practical application of the skills taught.

I have been teaching social, emotional, well-being and character development for most of my career. To support this work, I have been trained in and utilize various accredited social and emotional programs, including Zones of Regulation, Kelso's Choices, and Second Step. These programs have also played a key role within my lessons as they promote emotional intelligence, empathy, and problem-solving skills.

I have spent a number of years working with students with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder. The focus of my work was on developing their executive functioning, social skills, and academics.

When I'm not teaching on Outschool, I cherish spending time with my family. I have three children ranging from middle school to Grade 2, and we love going on walks together. My favorite moments include watching the sunset and exploring new food.

I'm excited to get to know my new students and embarking on this learning adventure together. Part of our success will be down to parent collaboration so I welcome your messages before, during, or after any group sessions.
