Objective/Standards:
Students will understand what executive functioning is, why it's important, where their strengths and weakness lie and how to improve their own executive functioning skills using neuroscience backed methods and hacks.
📝They will create their own individual brain-wiring profile User Manual. 🙌

Essential Question:
How can improving our executive functioning skills help us become more effective learners, masters at focusing, decision ninjas and critical thinking problem solvers?

In this class we focus on understanding and enhancing executive functioning skills, based on the latest neuroscience research. Executive Functioning skills have been found to be more critical for success in academics and life than IQ level.

This course not only builds executive functioning skills but also fosters a deeper understanding of how the brain works and how to harness its full potential.

We will focus on science backed methods that aid those with different brain wiring (ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, SLD, Gifted) to organize their mental landscape. These methods are not 100% intuitive but draw on common methods suggested that work with the typical brain and upgrade them to fit ANY brain wiring.

Expert Guidance:
As a neurodiverse 2e SPED educator (graduate education focus on ADHD, Autism, Gifted, 2E, Dyslexia), I am deeply passionate about tapping into the full potential and intrinsic motivation of every child through outside-the-box and creative, critical thinking.
As a Researcher, it is my nature to constantly seek out and use innovative, research-backed approaches to learning that not only acknowledge, but also celebrate each child's uniqueness. I have thorough experience in breaking down complex neuroscience concepts into easy-to-understand strategies for children of all ages.

Personalized Learning:
All students will receive a questionnaire to discover their unique strengths and weaknesses in executive functioning, allowing for a tailored learning experience.

Welcoming Environment:
I understand and respect the need for some students to "fly incognito" and offer flexible interaction options, including chat-based discussions for those who prefer not to use microphones but still want to engage. I also understand some students may wish to check in and then learn in their comfort zone of camera off (which is why this discussion class has extra seats for those less comfortable with chiming in).

Course Schedule: Please see the syllabus.

Why This Course is Unique:
This full year EF group course will be delving into wiring differences in the different ND’s and how that shows up in cognitive profiles. There will be extension project for those wanting to go deeper into the neuroscience to troubleshoot the different ND wiring and supports (giving them greater self-awareness and empathy towards others different from them) as well as creating their individual brain-wiring operators manual through the year.

Interactive and Flexible:
Classes are designed to be interactive where students face challenges and discussions to recognize their strengths and create actionable goals throughout the year. Each subject and each week is a gold mine of 20 years of research. While these techniques were developed to help those with Executive Dysfunction, all students can benefit from the science behind activating the maximum amount of their brain while learning.

Inclusive Teaching Style:
This class caters to all learning styles and all students are welcome, whatever accommodation they need.

Late Enrollment Friendly:
While the class is set up to build and reference previous classes for this academics Master Course, students can join at any time without feeling behind due to the highly specific nature of each week's subject.
Learning Goals
Students will develop stronger executive functioning skills, including planning, organization, time management, and task initiation, enabling them to manage academic and personal tasks more effectively.
Students will gain techniques and strategies for managing their emotions, improving their ability to stay calm and focused under pressure, and fostering better interpersonal relationships.

Learning Needs
This course will address topics essential and particularly helpful the neurodivergent brain (ADHD, Autism, Dyslexia, SLD, Gifted). All students are welcome and accommodated. Extension projects will be available.
Parental Guidance
***While students will be instructed is Cognitive Behavioral methods and mindfulness, this is not intended to be, or take the place of, therapy. Please seek professional care outside of this platform for 1-1 or group therapy needs.***
Supply List
For the Brain-Wiring User Manual, it can be completely digital and students can use a note taking app or Canva edit/personalize/record to their heart's desire or it can be printable.
In the case of printing it out, a binder or folder (able to contain about 70-100 pages to give them options of adding extras of templates) will be needed. There will have pages to use for recording how they best learn each week with tools and modifications. There will also be sample templates and pre-made and modifiable "cheatsheets" to hold on to for use or reference later.
If they choose physical copy, having options for personalizing the outside cover will be appreciated by creative students, I'm sure.
