Homework
1-2 hours per week. Homework will be to continue working on their story while implementing what they learn in class. The time spent will depend on their level of passion for what they are doing and how quickly they wish to complete.Class Experience
***If you are new to Outschool, you can use this code to receive $20 credit for first class: MsFalzo20.*** In this 1:1 class, students will learn to and be guided in writing their own story/novel. Each topic will be leveled to student's abilities. A young writer could be writing a 3 page story using a Graphic Organizer with a picture and 1-3 sentences per page. The most advanced student could be expanding on their 50,000 word novel that they decided to write for NaNoWriMo into a publishable work. Subjects covered and taught: Introduction to Storytelling: Discussing what makes a good story, covering elements like characters, plot, setting, conflict, and resolution. Inspiration: Encouraging them to draw from personal experiences, interests, or imagination. Character Development: How to create compelling characters with depth and personality. Plot Development: Discussing the importance of a well-structured plot. Introduce concepts like rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. Setting: How to create a vivid setting that supports the story. Writing Drafts: Writing their story. Vocabulary: Expanding vocabulary and use of descriptive words to enhance a story. Revision: How to revise their work, focusing on improving the story's flow, clarity, and engagement. Editing: Discussing the importance of grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Feedback: How to use and handle constructive criticism. Final Draft: After multiple rounds of revision and editing, they should have a final draft. Publishing: Discussing different ways to publish, like self-publishing or traditional publishing. Overview of most often used self-publishing avenues. Where the student jumps in on this process and how long each process takes, is individualized. Please message any questions or to set up a personalized learning experience. I cater to Gifted, ADHD, EF deficits, Kinesthetic, Visual, low motivation or interest.
