In this class hands-on, introductory class, students will use the Scientific Method to explore Matter (solid, liquid, gas) while making a float. First we will review what a solid, liquid, and gas is by looking at some examples. I will guide children in this lesson by going through the steps in the scientific method by asking a question, making a hypothesis, completing the experiment, and come to a conclusion. We will make a float together as we discuss different solid, liquid, and gasses that make up a float. Children will enjoy their float after completion. Participation throughout the lesson will be encouraged through sharing knowledge gained.
Learning Goals
Students will gain a basic understanding of the Scientific Method and Matter during this class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Cathy Foster. I have been an elementary school teacher for many years. For the last four years I have been teaching science, engineering, and technology classes to elementary children. I love seeing young children engaged in lessons that challenge their imagination and creativity. It is my hope that by engaging children in STEAM classes at an early age, it will foster a life long love for these important classes. My approach to education is hands-on and fun!
