Description

Class Experience

Students will be able to identify and demonstrate the scientific method, follow given steps to conduct their own experiments and understand why (the science behind chemical reactions).
 1 file available upon enrollment
✔️ Week 1: Shhh, it’s a secret! (Hidden messages with invisible ink.)✍️ • 1 hand towel • 1 fresh lemon or lime juice ***already squeezed in a bowl or cup*** • A few cotton swabs • A few sheets of construction paper (white, light colors and dark colors) • 1 iron that’s used for clothes (Do not use a steamer as it will not work. Parents have it already plugged in, on a high temperature & a safe distance away from your child.) • 1 cup baking soda • 1 cup water • 1 spoon • 1 bowl • 1 curious kid! =) ✔️ Week 2: Floating Moving Water Animation!💧 • 2 glass or ceramic plates • 1 styrofoam plate (Alternative: stick construction paper over any type of plate) • 1 paper plate (the one that is made from 100% paper with NO gloss on it) • 2 or 3 different colors of DRY erase markers (I recommend using a few different brands for best results. Test your markers BEFORE class to make sure the ink is flowing well.) • 2 cups of water • Paper towel or hand towel (for cleanup) • 1 curious kid! =) ✔️ Week 3: Chromatography T-Shirts👕 • 1 plain (no print on it) WHITE or LIGHT colored T-shirt (Alternatives: white or light colored a pillowcase or a small bed sheet. (no print on it) • A few different colors of PERMANENT Markers (the fine tip Sharpie markers work BEST. Highlighters and ultra-thin tip will NOT work.) • 2 cups with a different circumference size (1 small and 1 medium & NOT soft plastic or Styrofoam) • 3 rubber bands • 1 dropper (Alternative: small spoon) • Rubbing alcohol (poured into a small cup or bowl) • Paper towel or napkins to clean hands • 1 curious kid! =) ✔️ Week 4: Rainbow Density Tower!👩‍🔬👨‍🔬 • 1 CLEAR tall glass, bottle, or jar (make sure the width/opening is wide enough for pouring) • 1 cup light Corn Syrup • 1 cup pancake Syrup (or maple syrup or honey) • 1 cup orange dish soap (or any color you have) • 1 cup water (please have this already poured into a cup) • 1 cup vegetable Oil • 1 cup rubbing alcohol (please have this already poured into a cup) • 2 food coloring (green and blue or any two colors you have) • 1 small cup • 1 spoon • 1 flashlight or cell phone light • 1 paper towel or hand towel • 1 curious kid! =) ***Kindly note that if you do not have the supplies, students are still allowed to join the class and merely follow along. That way, they can still learn the process of how to make it and they can also conduct this experiment after class. Additionally, the file is merely a welcome picture. NO file is needed for class.*** Remember to click the heart on my profile to follow me in order to see new classes.
The teacher will ask comprehension questions to check for understanding and use the experiments as a form of assessment.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Assist your child when we use the iron and if needed with other experiments such as pouring or mixing ingredients.
