Basic Science Experiments - Summer Camp

In this six weeks camp, students will learn how to safely do some basic science experiment from the comfort of their home.

6 live meetings
5 hrs 30 mins in-class hours
Homework
1-2 hours per week. Homework will be given weekly to help students understand more about experiment.
Assessment
Assessment will be in the form of homework.
Grading
Certificate of completion will issued to students at the end of camp.

Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 7
Are you looking for ways to keep your child engaged this summer? If yes, consider enrolling for this class. We will be carrying out the following experiments as listed below. I will demonstrate with live instructions while students go along with me, an adult supervision will be required to ensure students are not misusing the materials or are using it safely.

Week 1 - Separation of mixtures using different techniques
Week 2 - Gas law experiments
Week 3 - Making slime
Week 4 - Lava lamp
Week 5 - Volcano
Week 6 - Understanding saturation, unsaturation and supersaturation 


Please check learner supply list if your learner will like to do the experiment alongside with me. It is okay if any learner would rather watch only, they can do it on their own later and send me pictures. Many of the materials you may already have in your kitchen.

Parental Guidance
The materials or products from the experiment are not safe to be consumed or eaten. They are only for learning purpose. Vinegar can cause throat burn, skin and/or eye irritation, adult supervision is needed for this experiment to ensure safety.
Supply List
The following things will be used in class. This is optional, students can choose to watch me demonstrate the experiment instead; 

Week 1 - a funnel, filter paper (any type will do), disposable cups, sieve and plastic spoon, some sand (or rice)

Week 2 - balloons ( 2 or 3 pieces, medium sized) 

Week 3- glue, baking soda, food coloring, contact lens solution, bowl, spoon (1 tsp and tbs), measuring

Week 4- Alka-Seltzer tablet, vegetable oil, water, food coloring, an empty plastic bottle (transparent color)

Week 5 - baking soda, pan or bowl, vinegar, food coloring, cup, spoon or a dropper

Week 6 - salt, 3 cups, water (room temperature) and spoon

Safety kit: Glove and eye google

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
