In this one time class, students will learn the meaning of compound words. I will start the class with a brief introduction and song about the topic. Students will also learn early reading strategies of analyzing the two words first before putting them together to create a whole new word. Students will also practice taking a compound word apart. These exercises will help promote reading fluency in early readers. The teacher will do this activity by showing the students compound word posters with picture clues of each word that makes up the compound word. At the end of the class, students will get a short list of compound words and be instructed to choose one to draw the two separate words that make up that compound word on their own. Students will create a sentence either orally or written using the compound word of their choice.

**Due to copy-write laws, the PDF version of the compound word posters will not be provided. However, under "additional resources" if you would like to purchase, the link will be provided to do so. Buying these posters are not required for this class.**

Learning Goals

Students will improve their understanding of compound words, by analyzing two words and putting them together to make a whole new word. Students will also improve their skills of seeing a compound word, and taking it apart into the two separate words which promotes reading fluency in young readers.

👩🏼‍🏫My Philosophy:
It is my philosophy that teaching should always be done in an environment that is healthy, educational, and most importantly safe. I believe that students thrive when they feel the most comfortable, and by transforming learning into fun activities, it allows students to gain a better understanding on a topic whether they realize it or not! It gives me such pride at the end of each school year when they can showcase their learning talents to their parents! I am excited to meet new students and provide the same type of love and enthusiasm to help reach their highest potentials!
