In this one time course, students will learn to identify emotions, understand what happens when emotions are out of control, and gain tools for communicating and regulating their emotions.

Class experience

Children will learn that feelings are okay.
Children will learn what happens to their ability to think clearly when their emotions are out of control.
Children will learn tools that they can use to calm down and regulate their emotions.
Children will learn how they can communicate their feelings to others.
I have received extensive training in Social Emotional Learning, Trauma Informed Care, Bullying Prevention and Expeditionary Learning (EL), over the past three years. I am passionate about social-emotional learning and believe it is the foundation of all education.
One or two pieces of plain (any color) paper
Crayons, markers or colored pencils
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be given opportunity to share what causes them to "flip their lid" (lose control of their emotions). I give great attention during this time to ensure inappropriate content is not discussed. If something were to arise, I will immediately mute the student. Then I will address the class in a way that doesn't single out the student but yet they all know the student was not in trouble but rather the topic is one that is too sensitive for this setting. I will then advise all students to talk with another adult about such issues.
