Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - 1
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Each week, we will explore a different emotion, through the use of songs, games, crafts, or other hands-on activities. We will learn how each emotion impacts our daily life, how we can manage it, and how we can be aware of it in those around us. We will also focus on a character quality each week. We will discover how these aspects of character are important for building strong relationships with others.

Details of what we will discuss in each class are listed in the syllabus.

We will begin each session with a greeting. During the greeting, each child will introduce themselves to the others in the class, by saying, "My name is ......" They will also be asked to share something, such as something that makes them happy, a time when they were sad, etc. Then, the rest of the class will greet them, by saying "welcome and the learner’s name." This is a very important part of my classes because it immediately makes every child know that they are an important part of the class. It also sets the foundation for trust and respect within the class. We will do this each day, but with a different prompt.

After our greeting, we will jump in with a mixture of teaching, discussion, singing and hands-on activities. I incorporate a great deal of student interaction in my class. Please feel free to have your child unmuted, unless you have a lot of background noise in your home. If there is a lot of background noise, or if a child becomes disruptive to our class discussions, I will mute children and then unmute them when they want to share.

I prefer learners keep their cameras on, due to the nature of this class. However, I also understand that there are many reasons why your child may not feel comfortable being on camera. If there is some reason why your child does not want to be on camera, please let me know. I certainly do not want any child to not take this class because of camera issues.

Please note: This class is not intended for therapy. Rather, it is to give learners an introduction into each emotion covered.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
In Weeks 5 and 10, we will be doing an activity which requires the use of scissors. Learners may need adult assistance. We will be using mirrors in every session. Adult supervision may be needed, if the mirror is made of glass. This class is intended to introduce learners to different emotions. It is not a therapy class.
Supply List
A breakdown of when each item will be needed is provided in the Class Description portion above.

The following items will be needed every week: 1 small paper plate (dessert size), small mirror, playdough, crayons or markers. A total of 10 small paper plates will be needed for the entire course. I suggest having a few extra for learners who like to “start over” or those who like to make “extra”.

In addition to the above items, learners will need the following materials for weeks 5 and 10: Child safety scissors; Two 8 oz (or larger) paper cups...for a total of four (4). Please note: styrofoam cups will not work for this project.
