In this ongoing class, we will discuss and continue to develop the social and emotional skills that we learned in “Exploring My Social Emotional World...Upper Elementary”.
Class experience
In this ongoing discussion group, we will visit a variety of social and emotional learning topics that children in this age group encounter. The topics that are covered are based on the principles that I teach in my introductory class "Exploring my Social Emotional World" (both the class and camp format). Because I am now teaching in-person, on a year-round basis, I am not able to offer the introductory classes as often as I would like. Therefore, I will ensure that all learners are provided...
1. Learners will work on building a growth mindset. 2. Learners will improve their ability to focus and be engaged during conversations. 3. Learners will improve their ability to manage their feelings. 4. Learners will continue to work on tools for resolving conflict with others. 5. Learners will improve their strategies for including others and asking to be included. 6. Learners will continue to build an awareness of feelings in others. 7. Learners will continue to recognize, act and make plans for incidents that involve bullying. 8. Learners will improve their problem solving and collaboration skills.
I have had extensive training in the area of Social Emotional Learning, including specialized areas of Growth Mindset, Bullying, Trauma Informed Care, and Virtual SEL. Most of my SEL training has come through CASEL, Second Step, Conscious Discipline, Circle of Security, EdWeb, Deeper Learning, Colorado Shines and Early Childhood Investigations.

A notebook or journal Pen or pencil Crayons or colored pencils I will post notes in the classroom. These can be printed, if desired, but it is not mandatory.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Please review the topics of discussion for each week. While we have covered each of these subjects in the prerequisite classes, some parents may feel some subjects are not appropriate for their child. I have had extensive training to teach each topic to children, at an age appropriate manner, and will adhere to the training I have received. I also ensure that all discussions stay within Outschool's policies for sensitive content.
