Class Experience

This class, Anger Management for Kids – This is What Anger Does #2 continues the discussion on Anger. In the first class, “This Is How Anger Feels #1”, students were able to identify and connect with how they feel when anger arrives. We talked about solving the mystery of anger and naming the emotion felt when anger arrives. In this class, “This is What Anger Does #2”, students will review and apply prior knowledge and skills to explore more about what anger does when they feel angry. As I teach students what happens in their brain and body when anger arrives, the three activities in this class will help students build defenses against anger by studying (1) Vocabulary and their terms (Amygdala, Prefrontal Cortex, and Adrenaline), (2) Decode their anger, and (3) Consequences of acting out in public or at home. I recommend taking all 15 courses when available to allow students to build on each class that provides more support to think about and see a change in the behavior slowly improving. Change does take time for students to overcome anger.

Virtual rules will be acknowledged in the beginning of the class to review expectations to respect others and allow students to respond to the activity. Students will be asked to write questions, words, or a sentence to practice strategies at home. All activities will take 30 minutes to complete, 30 minutes for writing and answering questions, and 30 minutes will be used to allow students to explain how anger makes them feel and view video clips. In this class, my teaching style as a special education teacher allow all students to be heard as they deal with difficult emotions.

Learning Goals

Students will engage with answering questions to understand how to manage their anger, view video clips for a visual presentation (age appropriate) to review anger scenarios, and learn how to meditate as a calming for anger to a peaceful outcome. I will use strategies that help students remember and practice when anger arrives.
