In this one-time class, students will be introduced to the concept of division. We will begin by using virtual base ten blocks to represent a given number. Then, we will discuss how to decide how many groups we need. Students will learn the terms "dividend" and "divisor". Then, we will work together to put our dividend into equal groups. Students will then be lead to discover that there are a remainder of numbers that cannot divide equally. We will discuss how some dividends will have remainders. This a great course for learners who are needing to strengthen their number sense and conceptual understanding of division. Throughout class we will hold discussion and work together to learn the process of division.

Welcome! My name is Teacher Shannon and I am so excited to meet you! I have been working with students from all ages for over ten years and I am ready for you to join the party! Our classes together will focus on a range of things from fun with fractions to diving into life underwater. Don’t worry - our time together will be boring and uninteresting. Not! Your class will be full of excitement and high energy as we approach learning in an exciting way. I have a passion for connecting with students and helping them feel as if their teacher really “gets” them. My experiences have helped prepare me to meet the needs of students of every type. Previously, I was a fifth grade classroom teacher and I have a Masters of Arts in Teaching, a Bachelors of Science in Interdisciplinary Liberal studies, and a minor in elementary education. Outside of teaching, I am a PADI certified professional scuba diver and I hope to bring my love for all things aquatic into our classroom. I look forward to seeing you soon!
