This is a great class for students who are just being introduced to fractions for the very first time. In this one time class, we will take fractions from the beginning. We will discuss the definition of a fraction and make a connection to how a fraction represents an amount of something. By looking at groups of sea animals, students will create fractions that represent their amount. Eventually, we will move on to representing fractions using bar models. Next, we will define and identify the numerator and denominator. Students will answer questions about provided fractions, as well as create their own. Students will learn through observation, discussion, and practice. I follow the "I do, we do, you do" model to ensure your child is able to process the material at their own pace. Throughout the lesson, students will engage in conversation, use a power point, and answer questions.
Learning Goals
The student will deepen their understanding of fractions and how to represent them in picture and number form. The student will identify the numerator and denominator within a fraction.
