Class Experience

If you have a Spanish learner at home who loves baking, then you’ve just found the perfect class! In this bilingual lesson, students will learn new Spanish vocabulary, practice holding basic conversations, and bake rainbow unicorn mug cakes together. The teacher follows a very visual, interactive approach, making this class accessible to students of all Spanish proficiency levels.

To begin, the teacher will project a list of ingredients and cooking tools onto the screen and ensure that students have all the supplies they need. At this time, students will be introduced to the ingredients and cooking tools in Spanish through a fun, engaging activity. They will also review and discuss allergen-free and other alternative ingredients that they may use. Next, it will be time to start cooking! Students will work alongside the teacher to follow the recipe step-by-step in Spanish and ask questions as they arise. All of the new Spanish vocabulary will be visually embedded into the cooking process in order to solidify student comprehension and maximize engagement. Students will be encouraged to be creative, chat with classmates, and have fun! At the end of class, everyone will present their mug cakes and review all that they learned.

All ingredients will be shared in the Outschool Classroom and are also available in the Learner Supply List below. Gluten-free and dairy-free ingredient alternatives are available. Adult supervision is required during this class, as students will be using a microwave.
