What's included

6 live meetings
5 in-class hours
Homework
1-2 hours per week. There will be homework. Unfortunately, some topics require practice outside of the classroom and stoichiometry is one of them.
Assessment
There will be an informal assessment at the end of the course.

Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
In this two-week course, students will learn everything about stoichiometry. This is a topic typically covered during a high school chemistry class. Students should already have an understanding of algebra. Students should also have an understanding of the basics of chemistry. Students should also be able to know how to balance chemical equations.

Week 1: Introduction to stoichiometry concepts and examples
Week 2: Mass/moles/atoms guided practice and independent practice
Week 3: Percent yields/mass percents practice and the informal exam

Stoichiometry is the study of relationships between measurable quantities like mass and volume, and the number of atoms in chemical reactions. Students will learn how to calculate these quantities during this course. There will be plenty of guided practice and opportunities for independent practice.

I expect students who are enrolled in this class to be able to communicate with the class and me. They can do so through the chat function or verbally in class. This concept can be difficult at first, but with some practice easily mastered.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to solve stoichiometry problems confidently.

Other Details

Supply List
Students should have a notebook for notetaking and keeping track of any problems worked in class and their homework. I will provide them a periodic table that they will be expected to use.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
