Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 6
Students will be taught how to work through word problems. Word problems can be intimidating with all the numbers, and words together in one place! We will work through the problems together, and learn how to break the word problem down to the parts you need to care about and solve for the answer. Math topics that might be covered: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, converting fractions, and a small amount of simple algebra.

Class 1: I will walk students through the steps on how to solve any word problem. I will demonstrate, and we will work through problems together.
Class 2: Students will take the lead in this class. I will be here to guide them and help them if they, but I want them to put their new skills to use. Students will be able to work together and help each other as well.
Class 3: Students will continue to work together to solve problems. The goal is by this class students no longer need any help from me, and are able to work them out independently.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to solve word problems with confidence.

Hello!

UPDATE: I am taking a break from Outschool. After the spring semester of 2024 ends, I will take a hiatus.

I offer a variety of science and math classes. I have close to ten years of teaching experience. I've worked with students of all ages including young adults. I experience teaching in the classroom and teaching virtually. I have a B.A. from Louisiana State University.

I've helped tutoring student reach their goals whether it's to pass a standardized test or get a passing grade in a course.

I think that a basic understanding of science enhances one's life. It opens up a world hidden to most people. Studying science and math helps children to develop critical thinking skills that can be applied to all areas of life. My goal in all my classes is to inspire the students to study science. I want them to always ask questions and to stay curious.

Please reach out to me if you don't see a time that works for your child. I will try to be accommodating if it is possible.

When I am not teaching or prepping for classes, I enjoy crafting, reading, working out, and spending time with my dog.

"If you are scientifically literate the world looks very different to you. And that understanding empowers you." -Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson
