US Grade 6 - 7
Students will learn about our solar system, and how the planets may be similar or different from each other. We will take a tour of our solar system starting with the sun and ending out past Neptune. It will be lectured based, but I love student interactions and will ask students to participate along our journey to see what they know. Maybe they will teach me something! I will use Celestia software to take the students on a tour of the solar system. If we have time, we will use PowerPoint to ask questions and play games. I like to ask questions throughout the class to engage with the students and check understanding. I am a pretty laid back teacher. I give students space to respond or to just listen. I was a shy child growing up, and I remember what it felt like being put on the spot. I try to meet each student where they are and provide what they need. This is one reason I like to keep my classes small. An interest in our solar system would be great, but I would say no specific knowledge or experience is required. Just a desire to learn.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to list all the planets and dwarf planets in our solar system.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello!
UPDATE: I am taking a break from Outschool. After the spring semester of 2024 ends, I will take a hiatus.
I offer a variety of science and math classes. I have close to ten years of teaching experience. I've worked with students of all ages including young adults. I experience teaching in the classroom and teaching virtually. I have a B.A. from Louisiana State University.
I've helped tutoring student reach their goals whether it's to pass a standardized test or get a passing grade in a course.
I think that a basic understanding of science enhances one's life. It opens up a world hidden to most people. Studying science and math helps children to develop critical thinking skills that can be applied to all areas of life. My goal in all my classes is to inspire the students to study science. I want them to always ask questions and to stay curious.
Please reach out to me if you don't see a time that works for your child. I will try to be accommodating if it is possible.
When I am not teaching or prepping for classes, I enjoy crafting, reading, working out, and spending time with my dog.
"If you are scientifically literate the world looks very different to you. And that understanding empowers you." -Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson
**All classes are taught with an evolutionary perspective and according to Outschool's policies.**
