Crochet is a great stress-relieving hobby that turns yarn or thread into a fabric or textile & gives you something finished you can display or wear & be proud of!

This beginner level class will introduce the basics of crochet. Learners will be expected to purchase supplies & tools that they will use to complete class projects.

NOTE: Learners should have the dexterity to use a crochet hook & yarn without assistance. There is also counting involved.

Week #1:
* Learn how to hold your yarn & crochet hook.
* Learn chain stitch to begin your project.
* Learn single crochet stitch to build your first project.
* The first project students will be making will be a crochet headband.
Homework: Finish stitching your headband between now & the next class.

Week #2:
* Learn how to finish your headband by sewing it together (optionally they can add a twist!)
* Learn the US half double crochet stitch (UK double).
* The second project students will be making will be a ribbed crochet hat.
Homework: Finish stitching your hat between now & the next class.

Week #3:
* Learn how to finish your hat.
* Learn the US double crochet stitch (UK triple/treble) & the slip stitch.
* The third project students will be making will be a corner-to-corner scarf.
Homework: Finish stitching your scarf between now & the next class.

Week #4:
* Learn how to finish your scarf & add fringe/tassels if you would like to.
* Learn how to make a Magic Loop/Magic Circle start
* Overview of how to sew pieces together & hide ends to finish projects.
* The fourth project students will be making will be classic Granny Squares, which can be sewn together to make blankets, scarves, bags, and all sorts of things!

I want this to be a fun activity, & encourage my students to ask questions and share both their successes and struggles so we can all support each other & learn from one another.

Learners will be expected to purchase yarn & a crochet hook before the start of the first class.
* your yarn should be what is called "worsted weight" and should be a solid light or bright color (black is especially not recommended as it is hard to learn on); acrylic yarn tends to be best to learn on
* crochet hook should be 5mm or US size H/8
* sharp scissors for cutting the yarn
* a blunt yarn, tapestry or darning needle

Learning Goals

Learners will learn beginner crochet skills & techniques each week.
