Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this 2 lesson Self Paced class students will be walked through how to create an acrylic painting of their favorite pet.

This is a SELF PACED class - which means there are NO LIVE CLASSES. Instructional videos will be posted for your learner to watch and paint along to, as well as optional classroom discussion. Students will be expected to also post photos of the work they have completed. The more your learner participates the more value they will get from this class!

Students should bring a prepared canvas to class as well as a printout of their pet's photo sized to fit their canvas (instructions on how to do this will be sent before class). Please see the Learner Supply List for a full list of supplies they will need.

In the first session students will be walked through how to transfer their chosen photo to their canvas, and then begin filling in the base of their pet's colors.

The second session will focus on how to add shading and details to their painting to really bring their pet's image to life!

Please see the attached Syllabus for details on each Lesson.

NOTE: Learners should be able to use a paintbrush with or without assistance.

Supply List (these should be gathered before the start of the class):
* A canvas or canvas board (7"x 9", 8"x10", 9"x12" or 12"x12" are good sizes)
* A printout of a photo of your pet that you are wanting to paint your picture of, sized to fit your canvas (instructions on how to do this will be sent before class)
* Carbon paper or a soft pencil or charcoal (used to transfer your image to the canvas)
* A ball point pen (used for tracing)
* Masking tape or painter's tape
* Paint in a variety of colors that match or will help you create your pet's colors (I recommend white & black and usually a variety of browns and yellows), as well as any other colors you would like to include for things like your background and pet collars.
* Several sizes of paint brushes
* A cup of water for rinsing your brushes
* A paint palette or paper plate
* Rag or paper towels
* Clothes that can get messy or an apron/large shirt to protect clothing from paint
* A hair dryer is recommended to speed up paint drying time if needed
