Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
This 16-week geometry course is designed to teach students the fundamentals of the subject. In addition to the course materials, we will be using Khan Academy for extra assistance and PDF worksheets provided by the instructor. This course is ideal for middle school students who are new to geometry, struggling with geometry, or preparing for high school geometry.

Basic geometry is a branch of mathematics that deals with the measurement, properties, and relationships of points, lines, angles, shapes, and solids. It is the foundation of many fields, including architecture, engineering, physics, and art. In basic geometry, we explore the fundamental concepts and principles of shapes and space. We learn how to identify and classify different geometric figures, calculate their area, perimeter, volume, and surface area, and use various tools to construct and manipulate them. Whether you're looking to improve your learners math skills or someone interested in exploring the beauty and logic of geometry, this course will provide you with a solid understanding of the basics of geometry and prepare you for more advanced studies.

I will be using pre-recorded videos created by me, guides, and worksheets provided to assist with learning. Students are expected to check in weekly and submit their homework. Homework can be submitted by sending an image/scan/pdf.

Unit tests will be issued through Khan Academy, and a final course review will be conducted at the end of the course. This course incorporates both Khan Academy and external worksheets. Please contact me directly if you have any questions about the course.

The course schedule is as follows:

Class 1: Introduction to area and perimeter.
Class 2: Introduction to mass and volume.
Class 3: Measuring angles.
Class 4: Plane figures.
Class 5: Units of measurement.
Class 6: Volume.
Class 7-8: Coordinate plane.
Class 9: Decomposing to find area.
Class 10-11: 3D figures.
Class 12: Circles, cylinders, cones, and spheres.
Class 13: Angle relationships.
Class 14: Scale.
Class 15: Triangle side lengths.
Class 16-17: Geometric transformations.
Class 18-19: Review or work on topics that need more attention.
Class 20: Final Test.

As previously mentioned, Khan Academy will also be used in this class, with unit tests issued after each unit we complete. Students should have a basic understanding of decimals and practice outside of class by completing assigned assignments for a better understanding of the material. This course also covers fractions, so students should have a good understanding of them before moving on to geometry.

The instructor also offers one-on-one or group tutoring for students struggling with a topic. Please contact the instructor for more information or check their profile for listings and available times.

Learning Goals

Welcome to the Basic Geometry course! In this class, our goal is to help you achieve a solid foundation in Geometry. By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

1. Understand basic geometric concepts such as lines, angles, and shapes.
2. Solve problems involving congruence, similarity, and transformations.
3. Calculate perimeter, area, and volume of geometric figures.
4. Apply geometry to real-life situations such as map reading and architecture.
5. Develop critical thinking skills by analyzing and solving complex geometric problems.

We will achieve these goals through a combination of lectures, class discussions, and hands-on activities. Learners will have access to a variety of resources, including Khan Academy, worksheets, and one-on-one tutoring.

To help us stay on track, learners will be expected to attend each class, complete homework assignments, and participate in group activities. By working together and supporting each other, we can achieve our goals and develop a strong understanding of geometry. Let's get started!
