2-4 hours per week. Weekly homework assignments are provided to learners to strengthen their understanding of concepts and enhance their confidence while retaining the information. Homework will be assigned either through Khan Academy or as a PDF worksheet provided by me. The aim is to ensure active engagement and reinforce learning outside of class.Assessment
Upon request, learners can receive a letter grade for the course. However, it is essential for them to complete all assignments before eligibility for a letter grade. This ensures comprehensive evaluation and recognition of their efforts and progress.Class Experience
US Grade 5 - 8
In this comprehensive 16-week Pre-Algebra course, students will delve into the fundamental concepts necessary for success in middle school mathematics and to prepare for Algebra 1 or Algebra Foundations. It is an excellent opportunity for those seeking to get ahead or receive additional math support. Throughout the course, we will cover a wide range of topics designed to build a solid mathematical foundation. The course outline includes weekly lessons on essential topics such as factors and multiples, patterns, ratios and rates, percentages, exponents and order of operations, variables and expressions, equations and inequalities, percent and rational number word problems, proportional relationships, one-step and two-step equations and inequalities, roots, exponents, and scientific notation, multi-step equations, two-variable equations, functions and linear models, systems of equations, and a comprehensive review in the final week. To facilitate effective learning, the course materials consist of instructional videos created by me, possibly detailed guides (depending on the lesson), and assignments issued on Khan Academy and/or worksheets. Students are expected to participate actively by checking in and submitting their homework assignments, which can be conveniently shared through images, scans, or PDFs if they are worksheets. For assignments on Khan Academy, I can track progress after learners sign up during the first week of the class. Assessments play a crucial role in gauging progress and reinforcing learning. Quizzes and unit tests will be administered on Khan Academy, providing students with valuable feedback on their understanding of each topic. Additionally, a comprehensive final course review on paper as a PDF will be conducted to consolidate knowledge and evaluate overall proficiency. It is important to note that prior to enrolling in this course, students should have a solid understanding of fractions, decimals, basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), and integers. If any gaps exist in these foundational concepts, it is highly recommended that students review and reinforce these topics before embarking on this Pre-Algebra journey. In addition to weekly unit tests and homework assignments, students are encouraged to practice regularly to consolidate their understanding of the concepts covered. Given the fast-paced nature of the course, consistent practice is crucial to ensuring a solid grasp of the material. I understand that students may face challenges or require additional support in certain areas. Therefore, I offer live one-on-one tutoring sessions at an additional cost to provide personalized assistance and address individual needs. Please message me for availability. I prioritize open communication and encourage students to reach out to me at any time with questions, concerns, or clarifications. I am committed to supporting their learning journey and ensuring a rewarding educational experience.
Learning Goals
Learners will master pre-algebra, boost problem-solving skills, enhance techniques, and improve critical thinking. They'll prepare for Algebra 1, develop effective study habits, and apply math to real-life situations with personalized feedback.
