Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Beginner - Intermediate Level
In just 24 weeks, students will complete a full course in High School Algebra 2 that is designed to prepare them for advanced math classes such as Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry, Calculus 1, and beyond. This class is also an excellent preparation for college entry testing, state testing, school testing, SAT, and other exams. The topics covered in the course have been carefully selected to benefit learners in their future math classes.

During each class, I will go over the lesson, and students will take notes and ask questions. The remaining part of the class will be spent solving questions together as a class or individually, allowing students to practice the concepts and ask any questions they may have.

Weekly homework will be assigned, either on Khan Academy or through worksheets that I will provide. I can track students' progress on Khan Academy, and for worksheets, they will need to submit a photo/pdf/doc to me.

Math is a subject that builds on itself, and consistent homework and practice are essential for retaining information. Prior to enrolling in this class, learners should have a solid foundation in Algebra 1 and High School Geometry. Additionally, it is essential for students to possess fundamental math skills, including knowledge of fractions and basic pre-algebra concepts, typically acquired during elementary and middle school.

The speed at which topics will be covered in class will be determined by the students' learning pace. However, if no students arrive ten minutes after the scheduled class time, I will have to cancel the class. Furthermore, I provide personalized tutoring sessions outside of this course as well. Students who are interested in availing of this service can contact me to learn about the pricing and other details.

Here is a breakdown of the topics covered in the course:

Weeks 1-2: Polynomial Arithmetic - Review how to add, subtract, and multiply terms using foiling or the distributive property.
Weeks 3-4: Complex Numbers - Dealing with Imaginary i, adding and subtracting complex numbers, dividing with complex numbers, plotting them on the plane, quadratic formula with imaginary numbers, simplifying square roots with imaginary numbers, and more.
Weeks 5-6: Factoring and Multiplying Binomials/Polynomials - Using different techniques for factoring, learning which formulas to use for different types of equations, and more.
Weeks 7-8: Polynomial Division - Dividing with one term and multiple terms (polynomials).
Weeks 9-10: Polynomial Graphs - How to graph polynomials, finding zeros, analyzing intervals, domain and range, asymptotes, and more.
Weeks 11-12: Rational Exponents and Radicals - Solving exponential equations and learning to simplify and rewrite exponents.
Weeks 13-14: Exponential Models - Setting up exponential models and solving them.
Weeks 15-16: Logarithms - Introduction, The constant e and the natural logarithm, Properties of logarithms, The change of base formula for logarithms, Solving exponential equations with logarithms, and Solving exponential models.
Weeks 17-18: Transformations of Functions - Shifting, reflecting, stretching, shrinking, and graphing functions.
Weeks 19-21: Equations - Rational equations, square root equations, extraneous solutions, cute root equations, and quadratic systems.
Weeks 22-23: Trigonometry - Unit circle introduction, Radians, The Pythagorean identity, Trigonometric values of special angles, Graphs of sin(x), cos(x), and tan(x), Amplitude, midline and period, Transforming sinusoidal graphs, Graphing sinusoidal functions, and Sinusoidal models.
Week 24: Review and Final Test.
