US Grade 8 - 11
In this ongoing course students will practice the concepts outlined in the High School Geometry curriculum according to the common core state standards. This class will meet live, 2 times a week to ensure that we are able to cover topics in detail and allow time to check student mastery. During this ongoing course we will learn concepts in an interactive format. Students will be able to build understanding throughout the class period, have problems modeled for them, and have time to do independent practice where I can check for their understanding. Before most classes students will be emailed guided notes to print out so that they don't have to write everything down, and be allowed time to focus on the key concepts and use our time wisely. At the end of many classes students will be given a worksheet to cover material from the class. These are the list of the topics that will be covered throughout the first 4 weeks of the course: Week of September 3: Class Expectations, Points, Lines, Planes, and Segments Week of September 9: Midpoint and Distance Formulas Week of September 16: Angles and Angle Addition Postulate Week of September 23: Review of Unit 1 Topics I have taught math for 19 years in fun and interactive ways with much success. Though my approach can be characterized as energetic and engaging, the structure and detail of the class guarantees students will be presented knowledge in a way that cultivates mastery. Student learning is my passion, and I truly believe math can be mastered in a fun environment. I expect each student to come to class with a pencil, a print out of the guided notes (or blank paper if no guided notes are given), and a calculating device. I also expect students to give a good attempt on all practice problems that are given out each class. I hope to see your learner in class soon!! Brian McNair
Other Details
Pre-Requisites
Students should have already taken and passed an Algebra 1 course.
Supply List
Students must be able to print or be able to edit guided notes, assignment, and assessments. So either a printer, or they need to be able to write on notes on an iPad or tablet. They also must have a calculating device (online calculators will be used during class), pencil, and paper. For students printing out notes and homework, I also suggest a three ring binder, to keep all notes organized.
External Resources
