Students who enroll in this course will gain invaluable skills that can be applied throughout their lifetime and across various subjects, not limited to English. The ability to effectively support ideas in essays using textual evidence is essential for academic success. Understanding the proper and accurate use of citations becomes increasingly important as students progress to higher grade levels, as college professors expect students to avoid dropped quotes and be familiar with Works Cited and Works Consulted pages, even if middle and high school teachers were more lenient about it.

With years of experience teaching English and AP Language and Composition, Mr. LeCara shares insightful explanations and strategies. This course is particularly beneficial for students who struggle with essay writing, essay structure, or demonstrating a critical understanding of the texts they encounter. By mastering these skills, students will enhance their overall academic performance and become confident communicators in their written work.

Assessments Offered
Learner progress will be assessed by/through: • Written Assignments: Students will submit written assignments that demonstrate their ability to effectively use direct and indirect quotes, properly cite sources in MLA style, and integrate quotations into their writing with clarity and coherence. These assignments will be evaluated based on the accuracy and appropriateness of citations, the relevance and effectiveness of the quotes used, and the overall quality of the written work. • Class Participation and Discussions: Active participation in class discussions will be encouraged and evaluated. Students will have the opportunity to share examples of effective quotations and citations, and contribute to discussions on best practices for using textual evidence. The combination of these assessment methods will provide a comprehensive view of each student's progress, allowing the teacher to gauge their understanding, skills, and proficiency in using quotations and citations in MLA style. Feedback and constructive guidance will be provided to support ongoing improvement and mastery of the concepts.
Grades Offered
To enhance their learning experience, students are encouraged to have a notebook or lined paper readily available during the course. Additionally, having sticky notes, highlighters, and a writing utensil on hand will facilitate active participation and note-taking. These tools will support learners in organizing their thoughts, marking important information, and engaging with the course materials effectively.
