What's included

Homework
1-2 hours per week. Extension activities will be assigned to students at the end of each video, and they will have a week to complete each activity prior to the start of the next video. This homework will be given at the end of each class as a means of using the knowledge gained to engage in different activities with family members. These exercises are helpful in letting the student practice the material or concepts that were presented with parents or siblings, or solo. There will also be video aids that students can fill out while watching the videos each week.

Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
▬▬▬▬▬▬ COURSE SUMMARY ▬▬▬▬▬▬

Jump into the past and relive the steps of ancestors from every walk of life. In this class, we will focus on five different animals and the different renditions of those animals through Greek, Hindu, Norse, Egyptian, Aztec, and Celtic mythologies. We will discuss how these cultures have echoes in our modern day society and how we are still influenced by some of the ideas from these ancient civilizations. Students will be able to compare and contrast the mythological creatures, gods, and stories and then discuss the main ideas from the myths.

▬▬▬▬▬▬ FLEXIBLE FORMAT ▬▬▬▬▬▬

This is a flex class, with NO live class component. There will be in-class activity worksheet students can use during the recordings, weekly projects given at the end of the recordings, discussion had on the class page, and group activities during this course that students can choose to share with other students; however the lessons themselves are pre-recorded and uploaded once a week. If you are interested in the live version of this class, please follow this link:

For the flex version of this class, a recorded presentation (about 50 minutes long) will be posted once per week. Students are encouraged to write down their questions during the lecture, and post them afterwards on the class page. There will be an in-class activity worksheet provided with each recording that students can use as they view the lesson.

In addition, at the end of each video, an extension activity is provided that allows students to explore and research the concepts more in depth. The extent of each student's research is at the discretion of the parents, according that child's individual needs and educational goals.

▬▬▬▬▬▬ CLASS OUTLINE ▬▬▬▬▬▬

Class 1: Horses in mythology. In our first video, we will learn about equine myths and legends. This class will cover four different takes on horses as seen through Greek, Norse, Celtic and other mythologies.

Class 2: Dogs in Mythology. In video number two, we will be focusing on dogs from around the world. This class involves Egyptian, Greek, Norse and other mythological stories and creatures based on man's best friend.

Class 3: Snakes in Mythology. In our third video, we will delve into serpents of four different cultures. This class will use Aztec, Hindu, Egyptian and Greek mythologies to examine how people from different continents viewed snakes in their customs and traditions.

Class 4: Birds in Mythology. In our fourth video, we will explore the avian aspects of ancient civilizations. This class will touch upon how Greek, Celtic, Norse and Hindu mythologies see birds in relation to their lifestyle and beliefs.

Class 5: Cats in Mythology. In our fifth and penultimate video together, we will end on feline folklore and myths. Our final course will deal in Egyptian, Hindu, Aztec and other mythologies as looked at through the eyes of a cat.
**Note: If you have already taken or are thinking about taking my one-time class on the topic of cats in mythology, this will not be a repeat lesson. The cats and mythologies for this lesson are completely different! :)

Class 6: Review! Bring your notes and completed handouts from the other lessons, and test yourself on what you learned! The final class is geared as a way to review all of the animals and cultures we have discussed, so be prepared for any questions that stem from these animals in the mythologies we learned about.

I create my entire teaching schedule based on schedule requests, so if you don't see a time that works for you, please put in a request!

Learning Goals

By the end of this course, students will have learned about many types of mythologies including Greek, Hindu, Norse, Egyptian, Aztec, Celtic and others. Students will have gained deeper insights into these mythologies and cultures through the creatures that resemble our animals today, and be able to make connections between themselves and these cultures.

I have spent 5 years studying various world mythologies via multiple facets; I have traveled all over the world, from Mexico's Chichén Itzá to the Greek Parthenon and many other places in between. I have taken university courses, sat in on lectures from historians and archaeologists, and researched both fact (scholarly articles / research papers) as well as modern day fiction built around the ideas found in myth and cultures from all corners of the globe. I continue to educate myself with modern research, literature and seminars whenever possible, all to further my interest in the stories I have studied from multiple cultures.
