▬▬▬▬▬▬ COURSE SUMMARY ▬▬▬▬▬▬ Uncap your pen (make sure it's not Anaklusmos!) and dive into the Sea of Monsters in order to uncover the deep secret of creative writing. Train with us at Camp Half-Blood as we learn about what tips and tricks can make your writing really come to life. Class 1: In our first class together, we will start at the beginning with the most important step - words! Using the satyr Grover to guide us through our initial journey, together we will discuss how to become "Word Collectors" as we leap into the search for Pan. Here we will pick up clues that can lead us closer or farther away from the Greek god of the Wild, satyrs, and folk music by seeking out the most interesting words. Class 2: In our second meeting, we will wade through the dangers of The Sea of Monsters with the help of Percy Jackson. We will start this lesson by learning about what an adjective is, how we may use adjectives and what they do to in our sentences. We will then learn about the "bad" adjectives that are 'wanted for crimes against the written word'. Together we will look at some examples of exemplary adjectives as seen in Percy Jackson and discuss what makes these images so vivid and then try our hand at adding in important adjectives to make a dull sentence into a great one. Class 3: In our third and penultimate class, we will fight back against the Titan's Curse using powerful verb replacements. This lesson will walk you through the most commonly (and overused) verbs and how to change them into something more vibrant for our readers. We will look at using "strong" verbs to perform to tasks at the same time by providing an image and an emotion for each character we discuss. Class 4: In our last class together, we will battle our way through the Labyrinth by combining all that we learned while training at Camp Half-Blood. Here we will work together and learn how to turn boring sentences into exciting ones using adjectives and strong verbs. With Annabeth on our side and Percy leading the way, we will dive into the Labyrinth and face the monsters there. I create my entire teaching schedule based on schedule requests, so if you don't see a time that works for you, please put in a request!
Learning Goals
By the end of this course, students will be able to identify and use four different tools and techniques to enhance their creative writing. Students will know the parts of a sentence and parts of speech, and be able to identify how to enhance basic sentences with additional information. Students will be able to add dimension to their writing through powerful adjective and verb choices.

Bachelor's Degree in English from California State University San Bernardino
Hello, and welcome! I am a passionate teacher who loves learning as much as as I do teaching. I have been teaching for the last seven years both online and in person. I have a BA in English; Creative Writing, an MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), a TEFL certificate and a certificate of Teaching Business English. I employ a task-based learning approach in my classrooms, in which I provide authentic topics and tasks that my students can connect with and practice the target objectives under a fun and relatable theme. I believe in an active learning environment which constantly challenges myself and my students to think deeper and reach farther than we have before. With this in mind, I end all of my classes with an optional activity that will allow them to use that material presented in class in tandem with their own thoughts or ideas in an extension assignment.
I love to plan my teaching schedule around your schedule requests, so please don't hesitate to put in a request if you don't see a class at a time you like. I am always happy to make a time that suits you.
