This comprehensive class will cover identifying the parts of both analog and digital clocks. Your child will need a clock with moveable hands for use in practicing. We will learn to link the concept of skip counting to telling time. Students will learn to read time to the hour and half hour. We will practice writing time in both analog and digital formats. This class will be highly interactive, provide lots of opportunities for practice, and build math vocabulary too. We will play comprehension games, draw, and have so much fun! The class will be taught over 3 weeks. Skills will be introduced and built on in a scaffolding approach. Each week, I will begin with a review of previously taught concepts. Week 1 session background knowledge through conversation. We will talk about daily schedules. Vocabulary will be taught too. Ex: morning, evening, noon will be introduced. We will identify the parts of both analog and digital clocks. Ex: Face, hour, and minute hands, hour numbers and minute marks, and the colon. Week 2 counting minutes and the relationship to skip counting by 5s and 10s. Practice! Concepts: what is longer a sec or a minute, a minute or an hour, an hour or a day, etc. How many seconds are in a minute, minutes in an hour, hours in a day. These are abstract concepts and not easy for many young learners. We will work on this in a fun way! Week 3 Reading and writing time to the hour and half hour in both formats. Hopefully, we will be able to move on to the quarter hour too. This will be determined by student readiness. This class is perfect for the beginner or for enrichment! I will differentiate instruction to meet student ability. See you soon! Jamie

Hi Parents! Thank you for your interest in my classes. I offer a wide variety of classes within the life skills, language arts, math, and science content areas. My most popular classes are private math tutoring, shoe tying, introduction to writing and a variety of creative arts classes. These classes are designed for students in elementary through grade 6. I have been a teacher for over thirty years. I have taught students from many cultures and backgrounds. I have taught all content subjects in every elementary grade as well as 6th grade Language Arts. I have taught students on line, in public, parochial, homebound, after school, and in enrichment settings. To date, I have taught over 8,000 virtual on-line classes! I am a licensed teacher, administrator, instructional coach, and also have my academically gifted certification. I earned my masters in school administration from UNC-Chapel Hill, and a highly-qualified bachelors in K-6 from Elon College/University. In addition, I have an associates degree in Early Childhood Education. How we learn and the stages we move through are always taken into account when creating and delivering instruction. In my classroom, I use a wide variety of instructional strategies and research based methodologies to meet the individual learning styles and interests of my students. I use inquiry based learning and believe students learn best when their learning styles and interests are part of the classroom experience. Relationships are an essential part of a students success both in and out of the classroom. Building strong relationships with my students is at the core of my instructional approach. I am a lifelong learner and want to inspire my love for learning with all of my students, in hopes they will be too. Teaching is my passion but in my spare time, I enjoy reading, gardening, embroidery, spending time outdoors and being on the water. I am happiest when playing with my eight year old grandson Alex and our adorable dog Gracie. I hope you will check out my catalog of classes. I would be happy to create a new class for your interests too. I hope to meet your child soon! Educationally Yours, Jamie
