Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
In this one time class, I will teach K-6 math standards by helping students with math homework or tutoring a new math skill of your choice. We can work together to determine the skill you are needing help with. I follow the Common Core standards when teaching a new skill.
Kindergarten skills focus on developing number sense. Skip counting, Adding, subtracting, missing addends and creating models for number sentences.
First graders focus on adding and subtracting within 20. Addition with regrouping, subtracting with regrouping, creating arrays for repeated addition.
Second grade standards include Concepts of time, money, and fractions.
Third grade standards include multiplication. The class could focus instruction on problem solving strategies strategies, the relationship between multiplication and repeated addition, creating arrays in multiplication, and solving equations with missing factors. The choice of skill is up to you. My teaching style is fun and engaging. I always teach with a method of making learning highly interactive for the student. I ask questions, provide examples, check for understanding and play Match the teacher, Pick a Star, and Read your mind. These are just a few ways I engage my students. I also teach the vocabulary associated with the math skill we are working on. This is a critical but often overlooked part of math. You may be looking for a tutor and want to try the teacher out before committing to a long term tutor. I hope you will give my class a try. We will have fun and learn a lot too.
