This 8-week course is perfect for students in grades 2 or 3 that need further work on number sense and math fact skills. We will meet each week to work on the following skills: counting, comparing and ordering numbers, addition, subtraction, estimation, problem-solving, and mental math skills. The skills will build from week-to-week with students working with larger numbers and more complex problems. Students will develop more confidence when working with numbers and develop a positive attitude towards math. We will follow this structure: Week 1: Oral counting to 100 by 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s from various starting points Mental math strategy: Counting on Comparing and ordering numbers Review of the 100s chart Writing numbers to 100 Addition facts to 10 Week 2: Oral counting beyond 100, counting by 25s Mental math strategy: Decomposing numbers Patterns in the hundreds chart and beyond Writing numbers beyond 100 Estimation strategies 2-digit addition using a variety of strategies Place value concepts to 100 Week 3: Oral counting by hundreds Mental math strategy: Compensation Writing numbers to 1000 Representing numbers to 999 Estimation strategies 2-digit addition using the standard algorithm Week 4: Mental math strategy: Using doubles Ordering numbers on a number line Odd and even numbers Estimation strategies Review 2-digit addition Addition word problems Week 5: Backward counting by 1s, 10s Mental math strategy: Counting back Subtraction facts to 10 Fact families Representing numbers in multiple ways Using in/out tables Addition word problems Week 6: Backward counting by 100s, 5s, 25s Mental math strategy: Adding up 2-digit subtraction using a variety of strategies Fact families Number of the day Addition and subtraction word problems Week 7: Counting review Mental math strategy: Decomposing 2-digit subtraction using the standard algorithm Number of the day Problem-solving Week 8: Review of all concepts taught in the course

Hello! My name is Teacher Christa, and I'm excited to teach your child! I have a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Saskatchewan! I currently live in Alberta, Canada and teach full time to a Grade 4 class. I teach all subject area including literacy, numeracy, social studies, science, health and art. I started my teaching career as a Kindergarten to Grade 6 music teacher. I then taught a Grade 2/3 class for many years, as well as Grade 2, and now currently Grade 4. I have been teaching for 24 years and each day I get to step into my classroom brings me joy! Primary children are my passion.
Outside of my classroom, I love to spend time with my husband and my 14 year old daughter. We love going for hikes, listening to music, dancing, and traveling!
In my classroom I want to make learning fun, enjoyable and not feel like work! I love seeing a child's face light up when they learn something, and want to make learning an exciting adventure! I look forward to seeing your child in my classroom!
PLEASE NOTE CLASS POLICIES:
- I can only schedule my classes 1-2 week in advance due to work and family scheduling.
- If class enrollment is low, class may be cancelled or it may run shorter than the scheduled time. Also, if classes are full, we may run over our time, depending on how talkative the class is.
- Classes will start on time even if learners are late or absent. If no learners are in the classroom within the first 10 minutes of class, I will leave the classroom. Per Outschool policy "If your learners have not joined the meeting 10 minutes after the start time, the meeting may be canceled at the teacher's discretion. This is considered a missed meeting and you are not entitled to a refund.'
- Per Outschool policy for safety and security, all students are required to turn their cameras on a the beginning of class. Please review Zoom features so you know how to use the camera and microphone features, including Mute and Unmute.
- Parents/Guardians are not required to be present for class, but please be nearby for technical issues.
Per Outschool policy, there are no refunds for missed classes. I am happy to transfer your learner to another session but require 24 hours notice in order to fill your vacated spot prior to class time.
