Class Experience

Beginner - Advanced Level
Is your learner learning English (ESL/EFL/EAL) but lacks the confidence to actually apply their learning in a real setting? or perhaps they are a native English speaker who just finds talking to people a challenge, or needs to practice for some upcoming important interviews or discussions?

In this class, Mrs. T will encourage relaxed conversations around a different theme each week. These will be topics that learners could realistically chat about in real life. So they are building real material for possible interactions in the future. Mrs. T will gently correct mispronunciations, and problems with grammar, tenses, and sense. As an experienced speech and drama tutor she can also suggest ways to improve communication and presentation with suggestions of tone, changes in pitch, and pace.

Each class will start with a fun tongue twister to suit the week's theme and also warm up our voices. Then the class will follow a loose theme, but Mrs. T will also respond to the learner's passions and interests and steer the conversation when needed with questions and prompts.

Week 1- Tell me about you
Week 2- Travel highlights
Week 3- Food preferences, likes and dislikes
Week 4- What movies/books do you like?
Week 5- What sports activities do you play or watch?
Week 6- What is it like where you live?
Week 7- Do you have a favourite animal?
Week 8- How would you spend your perfect day?
Week 9- Who is your hero?
Week 10- Learner's choice, something they want/need to work on more, something that has come out of a previous class that we agree together to explore further, or a mock interview.

Please note this is not an English language learning class. This class is for native or ESL/EFL/EAL speakers who already have a good grasp of English but need practice/ or get nervous to actually speak it, developing their speaking in real-life terms or for potential interviews with a native, clearly spoken, very patient, friendly speaker.

THIS CLASS CAN BE TAKEN MULTIPLE TIMES AS WE CAN CHOOSE NEW SETS OF TOPICS EACH TIME.

Learning Goals

Learners will be able to develop their public speaking and conversation skills and confidence in them.

Mrs. T is a fully qualified and experienced English and drama teacher who has learned to control and get the best out of her voice from working as an actress and presenter (Radio, TV, live, Events, Internet, Video). This means she has a clear, easy-to-understand voice and knows techniques on how to help learners achieve the same.

Having struggled with her confidence as a young child she also really understands learners' speaking anxieties personally, and always tries to be very patient and encouraging to support them.

With a Polish husband, she is also very used to talking to many family members and friends who struggle with their English-speaking confidence. In fact, it was after giving a family member weekly lessons that the idea for this class was developed.
