Write It, Act It, Bring It to Life! A Screenwriting, Storytelling & Performance Workshop.

Does your teen or tween have a story in their head that’s waiting to come alive? Whether they dream of writing for television and film, crafting compelling stories, performing their own scripts, or even directing one day, this class will take them on an exciting journey—where they’ll not only create their own screenplay but also bring it to life on screen using immersive backgrounds and performance techniques.

This class isn’t just for aspiring screenwriters or actors—it’s also perfect for teens who love storytelling and creative writing, and who want to learn the tools to organize and focus their ideas. Whether they’re passionate about crafting original characters, exploring world-building, or simply sharpening their ability to tell a great story, they’ll gain valuable skills that apply across all forms of writing, so they can get from the beginning, through the middle and to the end without wandering aimlessly all over the place by creating an active and engaging plot.

Over 12 thought-provoking and lively sessions, learners will develop a strong foundation as a group in creative writing, storytelling, and screenwriting format while sharpening their acting skills. Interspersed throughout these brainstorming sessions will be fun, interactive improv games and guided writing exercises, to inspire ideas, craft compelling characters, and shape their stories into a structured, dynamic script. Then, we’ll step into the world they’ve created—acting out their scenes using immersive Zoom backgrounds and AI-generated settings for a truly cinematic experience! (I do the AI generation for them unless they want to do it. They just need to bring the ideas.)

By the end of this class, your learner will have:
✅ A completed 20-30 page screenplay in proper script format
✅ A strong understanding of storytelling, structure, and creative writing techniques
✅ Hands-on experience performing their script, bringing their ideas to life
✅ A final recorded performance they can look back on, share, and be proud of

CLASS EXPERIENCE:
This course blends writing, storytelling, and performance into one exciting creative process. Each session balances structured learning, group mind and improvisational exercises to spark creativity, boost confidence, and develop essential skills for both writers and performers.

WHY THIS CLASS?
⭐ Perfect for aspiring screenwriters, actors, and creative storytellers
⭐ Also great for teens who love storytelling and general creative writing
⭐ A multidisciplinary approach combining writing and performance
⭐ A fun, low-pressure environment that nurtures creativity and confidence
⭐ Final recording of their performance to keep and share

If your teen or tween loves making up stories, writing scripts, or performing, this class will give them the tools, structure, and experience to turn their ideas into something real—and have a great time doing it!

No prior screenwriting or acting experience is required—just a love for creativity!

Other Details

Pre-Requisites
Learners should have a strong enough reading proficiency to comfortably read their own scripts aloud as a group. They will need to be able to follow along and express dialogue fluently for the final performances.
Supply List
1) It is important students try to find a quiet place to work without interruption. Participation in this class is extremely group dependent, so an interruption for one learner is an interruption for the whole class.
2) Good light from behind the computer or to the side so classmates can see each other well is important (worst case: make sure there isn't a light or a window on camera behind you)
3) Students will need to be able to use Zoom controls (change backgrounds, adjust their microphone volume). Don't worry too much, we cover this in class as well :)
4) Cardboard, markers, clothes for costumes etc. Depending on how creative your learner wants to get they will probably need craft supplies to make props or costume accessories before the final performance.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
