Every week students will have the option to participate in a weekly challenge where they must film and edit a short film that is 60 seconds or less. They will show their film in class every week.Class Experience
Filmmaking is a craft, an art form, a mode of expression. The only way to get good at anything is to practice. In this class you will receive weekly film challenges to help you enhance, understand, experiment and learn the craft of filmmaking. Every week students will be given a challenge to make a 60 second (or less) film that must follow certain rules. The rules will vary from week to week. The following are a few examples of the weekly rules: Film challenge rule - Only use four words Film challenge rule - Include an inanimate object that is the central part of the story Film challenge rule - Use all POV shots Film challenge rule - Have a flashback scene The students will also be allowed to make suggestions for the rules each week. Participation in the film challenge is optional. Every week each student will show their film to everyone in the class followed by a brief Q and A where the student will have a chance to talk about their film and answer questions. In addition to showcasing everyone’s films, we will also discuss all things movie and film related. This includes, the latest theatrical movie releases, favorite directors, film techniques, favorite movies, filmmaking software, etc. This ongoing class will allow you to practice, succeed, fail, learn, thrive and grow in confidence in your movie making abilities! Getting in the habit of making movies will help you find your creative style, your niche, your form of expression through the medium of film. Students will also be able to work on their communication skills by presenting their film to the group and answering questions. This will be a supportive environment of movie fans who want to practice the art of filmmaking. Let’s make some movies!
Learning Goals
Students will gain confidence and knowledge in making films, become better communicators and learn their style of expression through filmmaking.
