このクラスで学べること
Do you like to keep something to write on nearby, but hate carrying heavy journals and notebooks? Do you like to make something for yourself or to be able to gift it to others from materials you already have at home? In one class you will create a mini-book (2.5" or 3") that you can use right (write) away! Each book has an outer cover, pages, and a closure. You can use any of the following materials to make the outside of your mini-book: an old card (birthday, holiday, invitation),...
Create a mini-book.
I make these mini-books as a hobby for myself, friends, and family.
Please read parental guidance concerning the use of specific craft tools. 1. 7.5" long x 3" wide paper for the book cover From an old card (birthday, holiday, invitation), cardstock (plain or printed), cereal box, or other thin cardboard. 2. Precut squares of paper that measure 2" x 2" square OR 2.5" x 2.5" square. These will be the pages of your book. They can be cut from old books, plain copy paper, watercolor paper, or lined notebook paper... (enough squares that they will measure .25" when stacked) 3. Awl or ice-pick for creating 2 holes in the pages and outer cover. 4. Needle and Thread (no shorter than 12" in length) An embroidery needle works well. The needle eye should not be wider than the holes you make with the awl. Sewing thread, embroidery floss, dental floss, or thin cording that fits your embroidery needle. 5. Thimble, a piece of leather, or padded material to protect your finger when completing the closure. 6. Optional button. 7. Basic craft supplies: binder clip, paper, pencil, ruler, and scissors or another cutting tool (paper cutter or Fiskar's scissors) 8. A craft mat or wood cutting board to protect the tabletop where you work.
Craft tools used to make the mini-book are an awl, scissors, a pencil, a ruler, a needle, and thread. Adult guidance and supervision should be used as needed to reinforce the safe use of these tools in crafting. Use a cutting mat, cutting board, or other protective covering when cutting and sewing to prevent table damage and to have a flat solid surface for crafting. All of the work should be done over a table or other safe surface. Scissors or another cutting tool, a ruler, a pencil, and a straight edge need to be used before the class begins to have the inside papers measured, cut, and ready. Scissors or another cutting tool, a pencil, a ruler or measuring tape, and a straight edge will be used during class to cut the outside cover. The awl will be used to create holes in the outer covering and the inside pages. I will model how to do this in class. Adult guidance and assistance may be needed when using the awl as the tip is sharp and the project requires a bit of strength to complete. I like to use a cutting board or another flat surface under my project when using the awl. The awl must be pushed through the pages into a solid surface. A thimble or other padded material is helpful when sewing the closure. The thimble protects the finger pushing the needle through the paper cover and inside pages.
I believe that students need to see the personal side of the world. When students begin to see a unique story in a history or science lesson, they become engaged and learn. Learners need to see the relevance of what they learn. Then, they...
