The last two years of high school can be very stressful for all students, especially those with ADHD and other learning differences, and their families. This class is here to help! Students will make a concrete plan, noting important deadlines and study skills strategies that will help them stay on track as they finish up high school. We will also talk about strategies to navigate the last two years of high school independently.

Day 1:

Opening Questions: What are you looking forward to doing during your last years of high school? What are you worried about?

Introduce the planner for the last two years of high school.

KWL: Exploring a Future Career

Discuss: Deadlines and why they are important. What makes it challenging to meet them? What could we do differently? The teacher will introduce and model the importance of calendaring. Discussion of time blindness, buffer time, and planning ahead.

Record: Start recording important deadlines and dates on your planner and/or calendar for example college application due dates, test sign up dates, and testing dates, prom dates, and senior events.

Reflect and Record: What are your goals for the last two years of high school? What are your plans and goals for after high school? What do you need to do including grades you need to earn and classes you need to take to achieve these goals?

Day 2: What are you looking forward to about life after graduation? What are you unsure about?

Mind Map: High School Junior or Senior Year- Include classes, activities, commitments, community service ideas, interests

Discuss: Self advocacy and asking for help. What are the resources available at my school? How can I use them? How will you take advantage of your school’s support resources?

Reflect and Record: Presenting Your Future Self- Preparing for Work Resumes and College Applications. Record your thoughts on the questions below in your planner.

What are your strengths? What are you good at?

What are your experiences with work, volunteering and activities?

What kind of environment do you feel comfortable and confident in?

What kind of college or job are you looking for?

How do you spend your summers and free time?

Discuss: How can we study more effectively and efficiently? What are some strategies we can use to get the grades that we need to get to be successful? How does sleep help us be more effective learners? Teacher will do a quick overview of different note taking strategies and the importance of sleep for attention and learning.

Reflect and Record:

Preferred note taking strategy
Preferred places to study
Best times to study and do homework
Sleep plan
Things I want to make time for
