Experiencia de clase

Nivel de inglés: desconocido
Grado de EE. UU. 3 - 5
Once learners "crack the code," or master the decoding of the English language, the real fun begins! The English language is complicated, fascinating, and entirely amazing. In this course, I will guide learners through a structured approach to examining the English language.

This class is built on the Orton-Gillingham approach to instruction. It combines decades of the best reading science with strong practice and routines so students gain confidence and practice in a hands-on, integrated, and fun way. Each week, learners will focus on a new set of affixes or Greek and Latin Roots, practice new vocabulary, and build reading fluency and comprehension. Please see the detailed timeline below. While Orton-Gillingham instruction is beneficial for all learners, it is particularly helpful for learners with dyslexia.

Classes will generally follow the following format, though there may be flexibility within each week, depending on the specific content. Learners can do all components in one sitting, or spread them out throughout the week.

Lesson 1 (always includes a video): Learn 1-4 new morphemes (affixes, Latin, Greek)

Lesson 2 (always includes a video): Review learned morphemes using the "3-Part Drill," a multisensory review process in the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading and spelling that helps students develop automaticity and fluency with sounds and symbols

Lesson 3 (does not include a video): Learners will use specially-designed passages to work on fluency, vocabulary, word building, and comprehension strategies for each week's passage.

Lesson 4 (usually includes a video): Learners will extend fluency, vocabulary, and fluency knowledge and skills through games, activities, and additional video lessons.

Lesson 5 (does not include a video): A review page is shared with opportunities for students to practice spelling words and sentences using known morphemes, as well as additional challenge activities.
Metas de aprendizaje
Students will improve their understanding of the English language, its history and structure, and its grammar and usage rules.
