Mastering spelling can be challenging, even for strong readers. Our class offers explicit, systematic spelling instruction to help students succeed. Using 'Pop-its' or alternatives, we'll segment words, match sound/spelling combinations, and build essential spelling skills through engaging lessons. Each class includes: A 'Super Important Question' Mini-lessons on spelling rules or patterns (with games or activities) Word dictation (using the 'pop, write, check' method when necessary) Sentence dictation Weekly word lists for additional at-home practice activities are provided. This class uses strategies aligned with the Science of Reading, which support all learners (including dyslexic learners) in attaining the skills necessary to read.

Learners should take my basic spelling class first or feel confident in the topics in that class.

Learners need a white board and marker (or paper with pen/dark enough writing implement that I'm able to see their writing throughout class). Learners may benefit from using a "pop-it" to hear words in the sounds. Hand-outs with weekly spelling practice will be made available after class.
