*Drop-ins always welcome (sign up any week throughout the semester if spots are available) This is a smaller group club (no more than 8 students in each section), which I find works very well with the amount of games, attention, and practice each student receives. The students tend to really get to know each other and often find new friendships because of the comfortable class setting. Improv is a great tool to practice social skills and grow confidence, especially for learners who may be more timid in social situations or on the spot. Improv promotes teamwork and listening to one another, while getting to create characters and scenarios to role-play. Improv is very inclusive, whether you want to be an actor or are not interested in the arts at all. It teaches you valuable skills that with consistent practice, can be used for a lifetime. We will play multiple games every week, and eventually repeat ones that are favorites. Games might include "Yes, And" techniques, Character Building, Job Interview Scenarios, Improv Game Show, Improv News Show, and Commercials. Students will be paired up, perform in small groups, and sometimes get to do one-person scenes. Learners are always welcome to watch for the first class if they are more comfortable! Recently we have been playing around with murder mystery improv, where students can create their own characters and relationships and the drama between them. This has been a big hit! Each session will be catered to the students in class, because every group is different. If you are in a group that doesn't feel like the right fit, transfers are always optional and I am happy to help find the group that is most comfortable for you. I am constantly tweaking the games, inventing new ones that work well with each group, and taking requests from students to make sure the group is having the best possible experience. * I do offer private group sections of this class, but time slots are limited, so please message me for availability. A sample class breakdown is below (this structure will stay the same, but the games will change week to week) 1. Updates since we last saw each other, and introduce new students 2. Ice Breaker or Warm Up (answer a silly questions in emotions or voices) 3. "Freeze and Justify" game (students will improvise a scene, and a third student will "freeze" the scene, and replace one of the student's frozen position. Then, when I say "justify," the two new partners will have to start a new scene and justify their positions.) (10-15 min) 3. "Lines" game (students will improvise a scene with "audience suggestions," and then say random lines that are privately messaged to them by other students.) (30-40min) 4. Short Discussion (students will talk about their favorite scenes and games.) Logistics for Parents: (These policies are posted at the bottom of the classroom feed after you enroll for you to view any time and can also be found on the Outschool website). Ongoing classes at Outschool are subscription-based and meet at least once per week. You will be charged weekly on Sunday mornings (Pacific Time) until you stop your subscription. Each payment covers your learner's weekly access to the class meeting(s) following the Sunday charge. You can pause or stop your subscription at any time. If you stop your subscription within 24 hours of payment, including initial sign-up, you will receive a full refund. However, once your first class meeting begins, you are no longer eligible for a full refund. Stopping your subscription after class begins or after the 24-hour period will stop any future charges, but will not result in a refund of your most recent payment. To pause your subscription, you can click on the class title from your Learner Schedule and click "Pause" and select the upcoming weeks that your learner will not be attending. Please note that pausing your subscription will not hold your seat in the class, and your learner will have no access to content or recordings posted/shared in the classroom during the paused period.

Supply List
No materials needed! An open space where students can do different movements on their feet is helpful. There may be a day that I have students find props around the house (like a blanket, pencil, book, etc.) to use in a scene. They are always welcomed to have props and costume pieces handy.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from Indiana University
I am a "working actor" outside of class, and have lots of experience in commercials, auditioning for professional TV shows/films, and writing/producing my own scripts. I am also an actor for the Murder Mystery Company, which is an interactive-based improv troupe that performs murder mystery shows around the country.
I have taught in camps and after school programs for years, and one of my campers' favorite classes were improv. They love just being in the moment, creating, making up scenarios, and interacting with others. I've seen improv & acting positively affect so many kids because it really builds confidence and listening skills. Acting is a great way to get their mind off of every day stresses, and I love seeing them be able to let go, be in the moment, and have fun! I've worked really hard to create games catered to online learning, and I'm always learning fun ways to teach along the way. As always, feel free to read my full bio and watch my video on my profile page. Hope to see ya in the classroom!
