Have you ever wondered what it would be like to act in a Soap Opera? A sitcom? A horror film? Well, you've come to the right place! This class will use improv to dive into these genres and explore the differences between each one. Beginner improv experience (or taking my Intro to Improv & Acting class) is suggested, but not required. How would you talk if you were in a comedy? How would you walk if you were in a horror film? How would you react to your scene partner in a Dramatic Soap Opera? In this class, we will explore how to act in comedies, dramas, horror, adventure, musicals, and more. We will make up scenes to perform multiple times in several genres, while working on facial expressions, movements, and dialogue. We will encourage and promote creativity, teamwork, and character development. General Class Outline: 1. Class will start with warm ups to get our bodies moving and energized. 2. We will do 2-3 activities focusing on dialogue, movement, and facial expression 3. Then, we will improv scenes together and see what happens!
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to act in multiple genres, whether they are acting for the camera, theatre, or improv. For this workshop we will be using improv to explore comedy, Drama, Musical, Horror, Adventure, and Comedy! I created this class because students seem to really enjoy the "genre section" of my Intro to Improv & Acting class, and I wanted to create an opportunity for them to explore these genres even more and have fun with it.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from Indiana University
I am a "working actor" outside of class, and have lots of experience in commercials, auditioning for professional TV shows/films, and writing/producing my own scripts. I've acted in horror, comedy, drama, sci-fi, and have performed in many plays & musicals. I am also an actor for the Murder Mystery Company, which is an interactive-based improv troupe that performs murder mystery shows around the country. I have taught in camps and after school programs for years, and one of my campers' favorite classes were improv. They love just being in the moment, creating, making up scenarios, and interacting with others. I've seen improv & acting positively affect so many kids because it really builds confidence and listening skills. Acting is a great way to get their mind off of every day stresses, and I love seeing them be able to let go, be in the moment, and have fun! I've worked really hard to create games catered to online learning, and I'm always learning fun ways to teach along the way. As always, feel free to read my full bio and watch my video on my profile page. Hope to see ya in the classroom!
