Beginner Level
This class is a longer "camp" version of my "Intro to Improv & Acting" class. Anyone is welcome whether you're a pro at improv, or trying it out for the first time! Open minds, an imagination, and a willingness to get creative are the only requirements for this 3-day camp. Camp Breakdown: Day 1: Expect the Unexpected 1. Intros/icebreaker 2. Tongue twister warm-up 3. Yes, And exercises (students will learn the rule of yes in improv, and practice accepting their scene partners' ideas). 4. Lines Game (students will improvise a scene and receive random lines via private chat from other students to say at any moment) Day 2: Character 1. Icebreaker (may include a quick memory or invisible ball game) 2. Tongue twister warm-up 3. Character Movement Activity (students will pick a character to act out while walking, talking, and reacting to scenarios as their character) 4. Party Quirks Game (students will receive different "quirks" to act out at a party, while the party host has to guess what they are) Day 3: Genre 1. Icebreaker (may include a quick memory or invisible ball game) 2. Tongue twister warm-up 3. What is Genre? Discuss comedy, drama, horror, musical, and adventure/action. 4. Practice facial expressions, movements, and lines in each genre. 5. Improvise and perform scenes in each genre.
Learning Goals
Students will walk away with a general understanding of improvisation, making up characters and scenarios on the spot, and how to act in comedy/drama/horror/musical/action genres. They will learn how to accept random ideas in the moment as they interact with each other, while having fun every step of the way!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from Indiana University
I am a "working actor" outside of class, and have lots of experience in commercials, auditioning for professional TV shows/films, and writing/producing my own scripts. I am also an actor for the Murder Mystery Company, which is an interactive-based improv troupe that performs murder mystery shows around the country. I have taught in camps and after school programs for years, and one of my campers' favorite classes were improv. They love just being in the moment, creating, making up scenarios, and interacting with others. I've seen improv & acting positively affect so many kids because it really builds confidence and listening skills. Acting is a great way to get their mind off of every day stresses, and I love seeing them be able to let go, be in the moment, and have fun! I've worked really hard to create games catered to online learning, and I'm always learning fun ways to teach along the way. As always, feel free to read my full bio and watch my video on my profile page. Hope to see ya in the classroom!
