Get Outside! And have a blast! Get Outside is a summer camp adventure that encourages kids to be creative outside and capture images for scavenger hunts and activity challenges. Twenty-four hours before each meeting students will receive a scavenger hunt list that will require them to be outside to complete. They may need to photograph themselves smelling a flower or creating art from twigs. They'll often need to interpret the scavenger hunt clues to get their picture (i.e. "find balance in nature" could be interpreted as the student balancing on a rock or a perfectly symmetrical tree). There aren't any right or wrong answers, just opportunities to be creative and have fun in nature. During each class, we'll discuss our outdoor experiences, share suggestions for challenges, and show off our scavenger hunt photos. **Students will be expected to have their photos ready to be shared from their devices before class or sent to me in the classroom so I can share the pictures with the class for them. Students will have the opportunity to talk about their experiences and comment on classmates' photos. Students are encouraged to ask questions and share ideas with one another. This is not a photography class. It is a great opportunity to work on photography skills but no related instruction will be provided. Students can use phones, tablets, or digital cameras to complete the challenges. A new scavenger hunt list will be posted in the classroom 24 hours prior to class so students will have time to get out and capture nature!

I like to make change. I love to teach children about how capable they are of making change in their own lives and in the world. Whether teaching about food and healthy choices or teaching how to navigate through the propaganda thrown their direction, I believe that each bit of empowering information leads to change for the better.
I have an M.S. in health education and a B.S. in health and nutrition. I have spent most of the last decade developing and teaching curriculum for youth and family community health programs. I have developed programs to empower youth in under-served communities to take control of their health and to enlighten the adults in their lives. I've had the opportunity to help children and adults learn about the prevention and reversal of chronic health issues and feel more capable in the face of confusing health information.
I’m a very enthusiastic and animated teacher. I believe it’s easier to retain information when it is hands-on and fun. I’m notorious for creating weird ways to remember tricky information (goofy rhymes or even whacky dances) and for extending learning with strange facts. It is amazing to see young people feel strong and capable in their lives. I feel so fortunate to be part of that process!
I have four fantastic kids. They are all hilarious, brilliant, and weird.
