Finding meaningful key words and taking notes are the building blocks of effective research and writing. In this ongoing class, students will research and then write a paragraph about a different animal in each session (IEW Units 1 and 2).

If you are familiar with IEW, you know that Units 1 and 2 are the foundation of the whole program and must be learned first.  Students must understand how to take effective notes, and how to write from their notes, not just to be successful...

Students will learn to identify key concepts and words in each sentence, how to take accurate notes, and how to speak and write from these notes.

Details: Students should spend 15-30 minutes finishing their paragraph after class.

Shortly before class (usually the day before), I post a pdf page with a short paragraph about an animal.  It's best to print this out for class.
