The Great Barrier Reef is an amazing hotspot of biodiversity filled with many endangered and endemic animal species. Topics covered include (minor changes may occur based on student interest): 1) Ecology and characteristics of the reef ecosystem 2) How coral reefs form and coral bleaching 3) Case studies of several local species including dugongs, giant clams, manta rays, blanket octopuses, and many species of fish 4) Major conservation issues facing the reef with a focus on responsible...
Students will increase their knowledge of zoology and ecology of coral reefs by learning about the diversity of wildlife on the Great Barrier Reef. Students will gain awareness of conservation issues threatening some species. As a side effect, students may become highly enthusiastic about learning science!
I got my bachelor's degree in biology (wildlife ecology) and my Master's in science education. I am a high school biology, environmental science and zoology teacher and have experience working with many animals, including anemones, tropical fish, and other reef animals. Animals are my favorite thing to teach!
