In this one-time class, students will learn about some funky herps (reptiles and amphibians)! In the process, they will learn about animal adaptations, anatomy, and behavior.

Umm....what even is that weird animal?! The critter in the photo is a gharial and it's just one of many strange animals we will learn about in this series. Animals covered in this edition (may be edited to address student interest): -Chinese Giant Salamander -Legless Lizards and Caecilians -Wood Frogs -Olms (aquatic salamanders also called "human fish"...weird!) -Malagasy Rainbow Frogs -Betic Midwife Toad -Suriname Toad -Madagascar Leaf-Nosed Snake -Gharials -Mata Mata...
Students will increase their knowledge of zoology by using the above animals as case studies. Students will be able to name and describe these animals and their unique characteristics. Students will apply the concept of adaptation to consider how these characteristics help animals survive. As a side effect, students may become highly enthusiastic about learning science!
I am a high school biology, environmental science and zoology teacher and have experience working with many animals. Animals are my favorite thing to teach!
