Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Advanced Level
In this 25 minute beginner level class, students will learn the rules of the game Witzzle Pro, then compete against one another to win!

Explanation of the game: a card with 9 numbers will be shown. Dice will be used to determine the target number for each round. Students can use horizontal, vertical, or diagonal rows of 3 numbers and the operations addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to create an equation that equals the target number. Order of operations must be followed properly and parenthesis can be used.
Example: if the target number is 7, students can use the row with 8, 2, & 1 to create the equation 8 - 2 + 1 = 7.

This specific class is level two (after the beginner class which uses only addition and subtraction and has target numbers 1-12) & will utilize the operations addition, subtraction, multiplication, & division to find the target numbers from 1-36.

Multiple variations of the game are possible:
1. single player:
  - use one card to solve for a range of consecutive numbers ex: 10-20 or 1-15 or 25-36
  - set a timer and play through as many rounds as possible to get your highest score in the given amount of time

2. Multiplayer
  - Students play against each other each round to earn points using the same target number and card. The student who finds the solution first gets a point.
  - Each round, one card is drawn for all to use. Each player is assigned a different target number. The student to find their number first wins that round.
  - A timer is set and students use one card to solve for the target number in as many ways as possible. The student with the most correct equations gets point that round.
Learning Goals

I have my Bachelor's degree in applied mathematics and my Master's degree both from UGA! I taught high school geometry during the pandemic and now have been teaching on Outschool for a year! I have found a lot of my students struggle with basic operations and number sense through always relying on a calculator. My hope is through these games, I will strengthen students foundation of math and understanding of number relationships. I love math and sharing problem solving skills and the joy of learning with students on this platform. I hope your student will join us!
