This class is a 1-on-1 math tutoring session that will cover the basic topics in geometry. I will start at the beginning of class asking the student which topic they would like to cover (please review the list below beforehand in order to be prepared to state the section your student would like to review). If there's a specific assignment the student would like to review, please share before class! TOPICS: *Geometry Basics - Points, Lines, & Planes - Segment Addition Postulate - Distance & Midpoint Formula - Partitioning a segment - Angle Addition Postulate *Logic & Proofs - Inductive Reasoning, Conjectures, Counterexamples - Compound Statements & Truth Tables - Conditional Statements & Biconditional Statements - Logic in Venn Diagrams - Law of Detachment & Syllogism - Properties of Equality with Algebraic Proofs - Segment Proofs - Angle Proofs *Parallel & Perpendicular Lines - Parallel lines, transversals, and angle pairs - Parallel Lines cut by a transversal - Proving Lines are parallel (converse) - Parallel Line Proofs - Slope Review, Parallel Vs. Perpendicular Lines - Equations of lines: Slope Intercept & Standard Form - Equations of Lines: Point-Slope Form *Congruent Triangles - Classifying triangles - Angles of triangles - Isosceles & Equilateral Triangles - Congruent Triangles - SSS, SAS - ASA, AAS - HL - Congruent triangle proofs - CPCTC *Relationships in triangles - Triangle Midsegments - Perpendicular Bisectors & Angle Bisectors - Circumcenter & Incenter - Medians, Centroids, Altitudes, Orthocenters - Triangle Inequalities *Similar Triangles - Ratios & Proportions - Similar Figures, using triangles to solve for missing sides - Proving triangles are similar (SSS, SAS, AA) - Similar triangle proofs - Parallel Lines & Proportional Parts - Parts of similar triangles *Right Triangles & Trigonometry - Pythagorean Theorem & Converse - Special Right Triangles - Trig ratios & finding missing sides - trig rations & finding a missing angle - angles of elevation and depression - law of sines - law of cosines -solving triangles and applications *Polygons & Quadrilaterals - Interior and exterior angles of polygons - parallelograms - parallelograms proofs - rectangles - rhombi & squares - Quadrilaterals in the coordinate plane (determining if it is a parallelogram, rectangle, rhombus, or square) - Trapezoids - Kites * Transformations - Translations - Reflections - Rotations about the origin - Rotations with other points as the center - Dilations about the origin - Dilations with other points as the center - Sequences of Transformations - Symmetry (Lines, Points, & Rotations) * Circles - Parts of circles - Area & Circumference of circles - Central Angles & Arc Measures - Arc Lengths - Congruent Chords & Arcs - Inscribed Angles - Tangents - Angles formed by Chords, Secants, & Tangents - Segment lengths formed by chords, secants, and tangents - Equations of Circles (standard form, graphing, identifying parts, completing the square) - Writing equations in standard form given the center/radius, center/diameter, etc *Volume & Surface Area - Area of plane figures (triangles, parallelograms, rectangles, squares, trapezoids, circles) - Area of sectors - Surface area of prisms & cylinders - Surface area of pyramids & cones - Volume of prisms & cylinders - Volume of pyramids & cones - Surface area and volume of spheres - Similar figures and similar solids (comparing area, volume & surface area) *Probability - Set theory & venn diagrams - Sample space & counting outcomes (theoretical & experimental probability) - Geometric probability - Compound probability (independent & dependent probability) - Conditional Probability - Two-Way Tables - Permutations & Combinations Materials: paper and pencil I will share my screen to a worksheet that corresponds to the topic your student has selected that they want to review. I will teach the short lesson, cover any vocabulary or equations that the student needs to know for this topic, and then model how to solve problems for this topic. We will then spend the remainder of the session doing practice problems together. I will answer any questions the student has on the topic. If a student would like one on one tutoring to review their already assigned classwork, homework, exam reviews, or review old tests or quizzes, we can cover that as well!
