Homework
1-2 hours per week. Singers are encouraged to practice at least 5-10 minutes, (or more!) as many days a week as is possible. Progress can be made when singers practice consistently rather than trying to cram musical learning right before the lesson. Singer may need to read over the lesson plans or replay the class video for reenforcement throughout the week.Assessment
Assessment occurs when singers sing back the musical examples and songs in class. (I will also accept any recordings the singer makes at home.) I will make notes regarding what was covered and what to do for the week and post them to the classroom page.Class Experience
US Grade 4 - 12
Beginner Level
Singers will explore their own unique voice and learn healthy techniques to unlock the potential that all music makers have with private one-on-one lessons. We will use warm-up exercises and a variety of songs to practice our singing, games and activities to help learn fundamentals of music and listen to musical examples to inspire us to keep working toward our goals. We go as fast or as slow as the singer needs, and we try to make music with joy rather than perfection. We also use basic yoga poses to help us identify the specific muscles used in singing. No experience is needed and beginners are more than welcome. My teaching style is very energetic and enthusiastic, I make it a point to find ways to connect to the singer to make vocalizing as fun and as accessible as possible. 1-on-1 Cancellation Policies: Families can cancel and reschedule future meeting dates from the list of upcoming meetings. Please note: Families can reschedule as long as they're eligible for a full refund (up to 48 hours before the meeting). When cancelling, you will see refund eligibility, and can choose to cancel one meeting or all future meetings in the recurring schedule.
Learning Goals
My goal as a teacher is to create a comfortable learning environment for the singer to be able to freely express themselves without judgment but rather with inclusivity, encouragement and compassion. Singers will learn how to use their bodies to support the voice, engage in warm-up exercises, study diction, learn to read music, play notes on the piano if applicable, and explore musical theory and performance practices.

Parental Guidance
Parental guidance may be needed regarding the technical issues of the computer/devices and the internet connection.
Virtual music making has its limitations and patience and understanding are appreciated.
Making music live over the internet has a few issues to consider and one of them is the Zoom "noise cancelling" algorithm; it will cancel it out if we play/sing unmuted at the same time. Another issue is the internet lag which makes playing at the same time impossible. Therefore the singer may be muted while I sing musical examples, then we unmute to discuss and ask questions. There will be opportunities for conversation and interaction in every lesson.
Set-up:
- Please set up the computer to have Original Sound Enabled. Check out this link for help doing that:
https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/115003279466-Enabling-option-to-preserve-original-sound
- Computers, laptops and iPads are ideal for class, but iPhones can be used if needed.
- Please make sure the singer has a quiet space to learn in. Because we are using our ears a lot, it can be difficult for singers to concentrate if there is a lot of background noise or distractions. And when we are unmuted it can be hard to hear singers speak when there is background noise. If this is difficult to do, it is recommended that the singer wear headphones.
