What's included

Class Experience

Are you ready to level up your violin playing by tapping into the power of scales? As we start a new school year, this is a perfect time to reconnect with your violin and master these building blocks of all genres of music. This course is ideal for beginning through intermediate levels; learners should have at least 6 months of violin experience and be able to play left hand notes, use the bow, and read a few notes on the treble clef.

This flex class has no live meetings, allowing to you to work on your own schedule.

Each week, you will receive sheet music of a particular scale along with a pre-recorded lesson that explains and demonstrates how to play it. The highly interactive videos will include several versions of the scale, including a slower tempo to play along with on your own instrument, a faster one for inspiration, and a unique way to adapt each scale and prompt further exploration. In order to fully engage with the lessons, videos are designed for you to play along with several times throughout the week. It will be as if we are playing together!

When you feel confident about your scale, you will record yourself playing it and upload the video to me in the classroom. Besides practicing with your teacher via the video and recording your own, other assignments throughout will include answering conversation posts with other students and a fun quiz based on what you are learning. In response to your assignments, you will receive personalized feedback to guide your growth.

In the later three weeks, as you gain proficiency, you will be guided to explore composing your own rhythmic variations on the starting materials. Collaborative assignments will pair students with one another to design a new variation on the scale. By sharing a video of your creative take with other students, you will also learn and exchange ideas with your peers.

Through all of your video submissions, you will have assembled a "library" of all of your scales for future reference. Before you know it, you will be zipping through all of the basic scales on your violin!

Hello! I began playing the cello when I was 5 years old, and the joy of learning music has stayed with me my whole life. As a former philosophy major, I believe music education enhances development of the whole person by nurturing physical, intellectual, and socio-emotional skills.
