The Science of Light and Shadows and the Art of using Shadows to tell Stories! Do you remember when Peter Pan lost his shadow? Where do shadows go when we can't see them? Students will learn the properties of a shadow by drawing shadows. They will learn how sundials used shadows to tell time and how the transparency of an object (opaque or translucent) affects its shadow. I will preform a shadow puppet show for our learners and in turn encourage them to create their own shadow stories. Learners will be given templates to help them make their own shadow puppets to continue the fun long after class is done.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how shadows are formed. They will learn how shadows were used to tell time and why some objects don't cast shadows.
Students will also be given templated to encouraged them to make their own shadow stories stimulating literacy, memory, imagination & creativity.

Please bring to class a flashlight, white paper, a pencil, some small toys and the printouts included with this class.

I am an Early Education Teacher of 20 years and informal ESL Teacher. I strive to make lessons engaging and interactive. My experience teaching both in Canada and overseas has allowed me to see diverse classrooms and teaching situations. I homeschooled my own kids and know that it can be a challenge to schedule in everybody’s academic and social needs while giving them opportunity to develop their own unique talents. My three kids are grown now. One is working in the film industry, another is studying nursing and another is working in recreational sports. I want to support families, like you, who are learning at home.
When I’m not teaching I enjoy working in the garden and growing my own food.
